NIC Donation Drive for Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach
During the month of January, Nebraska Innovation Campus is collecting needed items for Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach. Items needed include travel size shampoo, conditioner, body wash and deodorant, men’s XL hats and gloves, disposable hand and foot warmers, blankets, backpacks, bike locks, diapers (sizes 5 & 6) and baby wipes.
Please drop your donations off at Tetrad Property Group (Suite 1100), the Food Innovation Center (2nd floor lobby) or the NIC Administrative office (Suite 2220) between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on weekdays only.
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach helps Lincoln’s homeless and near homeless find possibilities when things seem impossible. Your donation will warm hands, feet and hearts and give BOLD HOPE to those in need.

CAS Inquire: “No Pleasure: Addiction, Poverty, and the Every Day Lives of Drug Users”

Presented by Roberto Abadie, assistant professor of anthropology, School of Global Integrative Studies. An ethnography of people who inject drugs (PWID) in Puerto Rico, the talk will examine the socio-cultural environment that promotes and sustain addiction while illustrating the effects of continuous drug use on the lives of those afflicted. As drug users develop drug dependence, most of their efforts are oriented not towards seeking pleasure but preventing painful withdrawal symptoms or sickness.
Despite been rooted in Puerto Rico’s history of colonialism and imperial domination, neoliberal policies, and recurrent economic crisis that severely impacted the services PWID depend upon, Abadie’s talk aims to present a more comprehensive view of what it means to live with a drug addiction.
