Chris Graves is an M.A. student focusing on creative writing (non-fiction). She is also an associate professor of practice at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at UNL, where she is also a Deepe Family Chair in Depth Reporting. Graves teaches foundational courses in reporting and writing and information gathering, Mosaic — a course focused on writing for about and about Nebraska’ s refugee and immigrant communities. She also co-teaches the college’s investigation/in-depth reporting and writing course. She joined the faculty in 2020 after a 35-year career working in newspapers, TV, and public radio. She continues to freelance for national and regional publications.
Graves has spent nine years reporting and writing about an octuple homicide in the Appalachian foothills in southern Ohio that is the state's most complex and costly criminal investigation. A book proposal is currently under review with national publishers.
Graves serves on the advisory boards of the First-Generation Nebraska and the Nebraska Writing Project. She is the mother of two adult daughters.
