Julia Platt is a master’s student on the Composition and Rhetoric track of the English program. Originally from Pittsburgh, Platt got her undergraduate degree in English from Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College as well as a certificate in African studies. Platt’s undergraduate thesis, titled “Born of Ashes: Retrieval in Retellings and Reimagining Esther,” studied the implications of retrieving women’s stories from ancient texts, and she applied her research in a creative fantasy novel. She is passionate about empowering marginalized voices in the classroom and teaching as a tool for justice.
