Kevin McMullen hails from the far-away land of Iowa, and received a B.A. in both English and Journalism from the University of Iowa. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the English Department. He is the Project Manager and an Associate Editor of the Walt Whitman Archive, and has worked on the staff of the Archive since arriving at UNL in 2010. He also serves as Project Manager of the NEH and NHPRC-funded Charles W. Chesnutt Archive and was past president (and currently serves on the board) of the Digital Americanists society. Additionally, Kevin is the editor and co-creator of Fanny Fern in The New York Ledger, an online project working to digitize the newspaper columns of the 19th century writer Fanny Fern. He has published essays on both Whitman and Fern, and his dissertation and ongoing personal research focus on literary responses to the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850.
