An evening of readings, mingling, and festivities will celebrate the launch of The Lives of Immigrants and Refugees: Tales of Migration, Hope, Grief, and Finding Home in Nebraska, a new edited collection from the University of Nebraska Press. The event will be held in the Sheldon Museum of Art at 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
The book contains 31 first-person essays about the personal experience of global migration and creating home and community in the Great Plains. Co-editors include Joy Castro, Willa Cather Professor of English and Ethnic Studies, and Emira Ibrahimpašic, associate professor of practice in School of Global Integrative Studies (SGIS) and Women’s and Gender Studies. Julia Reilly, Assistant Professor of Practice in SGIS, provided an introduction.
This event is co-sponsored by the Institute for Ethnic Studies, the Center for Great Plains Studies, the Writing Program, the Creative Writing Program, Prairie Schooner, and the Department of English.
